Welcome! I am Stella Pierides, British poet and artist of Greek descent, and the owner of Feltabilia.
This is my website devoted to my arts and crafts creations, using materials ranging from soft wool (feltings) via clay to hard concrete. My poetry and prose work can be found at stellapierides.com.
Although presented separately, my work in the arts and crafts and the literary domain is closely interconnected.
For instance, in what I refer to as “haikufeltings,” I join and juxtapose word and wool, text and textiles: “haiku (and related forms such as haibun and tanka), the mainstay of my poetry, and felting, involving a physical process, come together to give birth to a new object, visual and tactile… As a result of bringing these sides together, through seeing, touching, handcrafting, imagining, and experiencing, I develop a strong, almost palpable connection to my creations.” (For more background to my haikufeltings, see my essay “Felting Haiga” in this website)
Another example is the series of sculpted concrete heads (which may be used as head planters), where I aim to impart each one with a unique character, creating another ‘being’ with its own emotional expression (reinforced by the plants rooted in the hollowed-out heads).

In my literary and artistic work, I explore the intersections of cultural, social, and psychological aspects of life.
I am married with two adult daughters and granddaughter, Ophelia. I enjoy reading, writing, felting, crafting, walking, gardening, table tennis, film, music, food, and working long hours.
